<p>Il Lager è un piazzale di cemento con tanti piccoli garage, circondato dal filo spinato. Si trova vicino Roma, nel giardino della villa di un costruttore italiano. Nei garage ci abitano immigrati soprattutto dall'Est Europa: pagano 100 euro al mese per un posto letto, vivono in condizioni estreme e di giorno lavorano in nero nei cantieri o negli appartamenti dei quartieri "bene". Molti sono clandestini, proprio come Ivan, un giovane laureato in architettura. L'Italia gli sembra un paese libero, pieno di speranze, dove un ragazzo come lui non dovrebbe faticare per vivere. Gli basta poco per capire che le cose non stanno così. Dal Lager, vera e propria prigione a pagamento per clandestini, finisce nelle baracche lungo le rive del Tevere, dove per sopravvivere è costretto ad accettafe pericolosi compromessi. Tra sfruttamento, illegalità, omicidi e prostituzione, Ivan viene inghiottito da una spirale di miserie e subumanità che non lascia spazio ai buoni sentimenti. Immigrazione, schiavitù moderne, degrado sociale: un ritratto scomodo del nostro paese, un romanzo crudo e avvincente.</p>
